Weighing Ethical, Moral, and Spiritual Values in a Job

Being a spiritual person, as well as a humanitarian, and social worker, I have had to weigh the moral, spiritual, and ethical issues involved in my job. I've had others question my spiritual ones, and than for a moment I had to separate what it meant to be each, a spiritual person, social worker, and humanitarian. What does it mean to be each, and in doing my job, what is ethical, moral, and spiritual right.

Weighing these three parts of me I understood this, as I read someone else's article about how everything we do is a divine appointment by God, and that of course he is always in front of us protecting us. He also placed us there in the moment for a reason, and he has also chosen us to be in the professions for various reasons.

When someone attacks us for our spiritual beliefs because of our job, it is sad, because if God gave us the the ability, gift, and personal experience to really help others, than it is very wrong for them to understand how God could be using you to do great and marvelous things.

I than thought as a Police officer, Lawyer, Nurse, Doctor, Humanitarian, Social Worker, Psychologist, Firemen, Military professional, and many other dangerous jobs, we are always put in dangers way, but we also have to have the courage and bravery to go face those dangers, in these professions you can not let fear get in the way, or focus on whether you will be harmed. You have to focus on putting the protective gear that you need for safety, and understand that God will protect you, be your guide, and keep you out of spiritual, emotional, and physical harm.

For instance you may be a spiritual person from any religion or faith and be faced with being on a battle feild, and you have your enemy at hand, and even though you don't like what is in front of you, or agree with it morally, ethically, or spiritually, you have to do your job to protect another's life in that moment, and in some instances, your own at the same time.

You  can't get caught up in fear, and get stuck and froze in the moment weighing out whether it is morally, ethically, or spiritually right in each category, in case mine as being a spiritual warrior, Humanitarian, and Social Worker.  Whether I agree with what a person believes, or acts out, or says, I have to do what is right for that person in the moment. I have to weigh the options of what may help them emotionally, and spiritually, and physically. Understanding that this takes time to heal, and change your thinking, and belief patterns, to tell a client in the moment everything they believe and think is wrong could do major damage.

It can cost them there lives in that very moment, it can also effect their progress, it can effect their stability and the foundation they are standing on and make matters worse. I have to turn off my own spiritual beliefs, and be unbiased, and I have to allow them to heal in the way they choose too, as long as it is not emotionally, spiritually, or physically harmful for them.

By state Laws I can not impose my view points or beliefs on another person, and in my profession many spiritual methods are used to help clients recover or control their anxiety, or many other mental disorders.

For instance in the homeless shelters in my area people are told the only way they can stay there is if they participate in Christian services, in AA they are using quotes from basically every religion in there 12 step programs along with other addiction groups that go by the same 12 steps, they believe in a higer source, because when you have various people sitting their trying to heal with different beliefs you can not impose your own on them, or tell them what works for them to heal. If it is harmless for them, and they are making progress, and healing that is what is important. They are trying to help themselves in the moment, and they are becoming stronger individuals to face their issues.

At a place called teen challenge they do the same thing, they use different beliefs and allow others to choose what works for them and heals them, that helps them get their lives under control, and back on track.

The seriousness of someone attacking them because of which spiritual method they use can make them fall in their recovery, and place them right back at step 1.  You can actually knock them off their foundation they just laid in their recovery process and send them back into crisis.

In my profession I have to just say is this harmful to myself and my client, or is it harmless to myself and client.  I also have to believe that God is watching over us, and that things will be guided in the right wisdom and practice.

Also in my profession I can not be prejudice, or discriminating, I will be faced with all walks of life, and every issue, every race, every color, every religion, every culture, and every nation. It is my job to not cause wars among these different issues, but be a peace maker, and not separate people, but bring them together.

I do not choose to represent war in any area of my life, and we can have many kinds of wars with people, and in my position, it would be to walk away from anyone that asks me to be a reprsenitive of war whether it be a spiritual person, or non-spiritual person, because I believe God is about Unconditional Love, Forgiveness, and Peace.
