Strong Enough To Walk By Your Side

60

By HattieMattieMae

Strong enough to walk by your side

although your eyes are filled with

weariness, never knowing what

you've wanted all along.

Afraid of love, to even to hold her tight.

It is so simple to confess your love

it's as gentle as a white dove that

takes flight spreading her wings

lighting your way out of the darkness

that covers your eyes.

She's enough, but you feel so weak

hoping somehow she will walk away

hoping she will vanish way from your

life.

Weak in your heart you can never

say out loud that you care for her

so deeply.

Silence entering the room hoping

she will never notice the love

you feel inside.

Strong enough to tell you its alright

if you never hold her tight at night.

She'll never hold on, knowing it's to much.

You want to keep her at your side

just don't know how to open your heart

closing it up so tight.

Keep telling yourself you don't need her at all.

Hoping she doesn't stay all night.

If she does you might see the truth and the light.

Pretending you don't care at all resisting love

with all your might.

Wishing she never walked into in your life.

If she hadn't you wouldn't feel so weak

while you tell her so many lies to hide

the love you are really feel inside.

Strong enough her love you will always

desire wishing it would just someday

expire.

Your poem describes how easily relationships are misunderstood. If we don't speak our heart's thoughts in truth we will lose out on building a valuable partnership. I think the fear of opening our hearts, as you wrote, keeps us from taking a risk on love. Lovely poem, Hattiemattiemae!

Thank you Ian glad you liked it! :)

@teaches, very true, someday maybe we will all get past our fears.

@raciniwa, very true too! Think both men and women hide their feelings and let fear get in the way.
